Pan-European food innovation competition comes to Aarhus

EIT Food chooses Danish eco-system to host its first Nordic event.

The hub of food innovation in Denmark, Aarhus, will this September host the latest addition of EIT Food’s Innovation Prizes, Europe’s major startup competition within the agrifood sector.

EIT Food is Europe’s leading food innovation initiative, with the aim to create a sustainable and future-proof food sector. For agrifood startups working on ideas to deliver a healthier, more sustainable food system, EIT Food’s Innovation Prize is an opportunity to win EUR 10,000 in total funding.

The EIT Food Innovation Prize event will be held during the same week as the European Food Venture Forum 2019 and Aarhus Food Festival, the biggest of its kind in the Nordic countries.

The Innovation Prize event could mark the first of many occasions when the pan-European partnership will call upon Aarhus and the ecosystem behind the successful food cluster in Denmark.

Benoit Buntinx, Director of Business Creation, EIT Food said: “With Aarhus University as our new partner, we have been able to strengthen our connection with the Nordics. The region’s status as a hub for food innovation makes it the perfect choice to host the competition and further our mission to foster entrepreneurship in the agrifood space.”

Food challenges in focus
Part of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology, EIT Food has a mission to solve the many challenges threatening the future of our food system. The EIT Innovation Prizes are aimed at and early-stage agrifood startups with a business idea that can benefit human health and the environment and contribute to more transparency and trust.

Selected finalists will have the chance to pitch their business to an expert jury, which will then select the winners of the EUR 10,000 first prize and EUR 5,000 second prize.

At the Aarhus event that takes place September 6th, international competitors will have access to potential collaboration partners, investors and other food industry contacts from the Danish food ecosystem.

The official hosts Danish Food Cluster and Aarhus University and their cohosts Danish Food Innovation, Food Festival and Agro Business Park, are looking forward to welcoming participants to Aarhus. It will be a week of celebration since it’s the city’s annual festival week with many major activities focused on food.

In addition to Aarhus in Denmark, EIT Food Innovation Prize events are being held in 16 other countries in Europe.

Interested startups must apply no later than May 12th. Find more information about the EIT Food Innovation Prizes and how to apply here:
